Someone else on TikTok made an observation when talking about this subject as well that hit it well: many non-black people actually have no idea what chattel slavery is. It's like we as black people are speaking a foreign language when we talk about the trans-Atlantic slave trade and life under chattel slavery.

And anyone who says the United States abolished slavery quickly really has no idea what they are talking about. Or any real sense of US history, and the legacy of chattel slavery's effect on it.
