Yes, I’m Going To Give House of the Dragon a Chance

This doesn’t mean I forgive the final season of Game of Thrones. But . . .

Sunday, August 21, 2022, HBO will premier its new series House of the Dragon, a prequel series to Game of Thrones.

And it is no secret that Game of Thrones, a show that captured the cultural zeitgeist as few shows do, did not end in triumph. Instead, it ended with many fans damning David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners and principal writers, in effigy.

I was one of those people.

That raw, visceral anger and hurt have subsided now. Yet, I still can’t think of that final season without a roll and a look of disdain in my eyes.

I’m a rare breed who didn’t start watching the show until Season 6. I first heard about the show before the start of Season 3, but when I heard it was based on a book series, I decided to wait to watch it.

Like many a sweet summer child, I thought the book series would be done before the TV series, and I wanted to read the books first before I watched the show.
